De qué está hecha esta literatura
La síntesis está por delante de la literatura primaria aquí: revisiones y meta-análisis que se basan en un número modesto de estudios subyacentes. Trata las conclusiones seguras con la cautela que merece el tamaño de la muestra.
La distinción que más importa es entre síntesis e investigación primaria. Un meta-análisis agrupa ensayos y es lo más cercano a una respuesta resuelta que produce un campo. Una revisión narrativa es la interpretación de un grupo sobre el mismo material y puede ser selectiva sin ser deshonesta. Contarlas juntas, como lo hacen la mayoría de los conteos de citas, oscurece exactamente lo que quieres saber.

Cuando la cosecha semanal encuentra un nuevo artículo sobre este tema, estos conteos cambian y la caracterización cambia con ellos. Ese es el punto: una afirmación escrita a mano sobre cuán fuerte es una base de evidencia comienza a decaer el día que se escribe.
El tipo de publicación se toma según lo registra la fuente. Eso es imperfecto: las revistas etiquetan de manera inconsistente, y un artículo indexado como "revisión" puede ser uno sistemático, así que trata los intervalos como aproximados. Son lo suficientemente precisos para distinguir una literatura de ensayos de una literatura de comentarios, que es la distinción que importa.
