Randomizované studie prokazují snížení nadýmání a bolesti u IBS; samostatné studie naznačují zlepšené vstřebávání nehemového železa. [1]
Studie u IBS jsou heterogenní a placebo efekt u IBS je notoricky velký.
Proč je kód kmene důležitý
Účinky probiotik jsou specifické pro daný kmen, a nejde o pouhou formalitu. Dva kmeny téhož druhu se mohou lišit v tom, jaké povrchové proteiny exprimují, zda přežijí žaludeční kyselinu, zda se vůbec přichytí na střevní hlen, a co tam následně produkují. Studie prokazující přínos pro L. plantarum 299v jej prokazuje pro L. plantarum 299v – nikoli pro celý druh.
Praktickým důsledkem je, že etiketu uvádějící pouze název druhu nelze ověřit. Pokud chybí úplné označení, nelze k obsahu kapsle přiřadit žádné publikované důkazy.
