Dokazi o probioticima specifični su za soj. Ono što vrijedi za L. plantarum 299v ne vrijedi automatski za sve ostalo što nosi isti naziv vrste.
Za što je proučavan
Randomizirana istraživanja pokazuju smanjenu nadutost i bol kod IBS-a; zasebna ispitivanja upućuju na poboljšanu apsorpciju nehemskog željeza. [1]
Ispitivanja IBS-a su heterogena, a placebo odgovor kod IBS-a notorno je velik.
Zašto je kod soja važan
Učinci probiotika specifični su za soj, a to nije tehnikalija. Dva soja iste vrste mogu se razlikovati po tome koje površinske proteine izražavaju, prežive li želučanu kiselinu, prijanjaju li uopće na crijevnu sluznicu i što proizvode kada tamo dospiju. Ispitivanje koje dokazuje korist za L. plantarum 299v dokazuje je za L. plantarum 299v — a ne za vrstu.
Praktična posljedica je da se deklaracija koja navodi samo naziv vrste ne može provjeriti. Ako puni naziv nije naveden, nikakav objavljeni dokaz ne može se povezati s onim što se nalazi u kapsuli.
