Probiotische Evidenz ist stammspezifisch. Was für L. plantarum 299v gilt, ist nicht automatisch für alles andere mit demselben Artnamen wahr.

Randomisierte Studien zeigen reduzierte Blähungen und Schmerzen bei IBS; separate Studien deuten auf eine verbesserte Nicht-Häm-Eisenaufnahme hin. [1]
IBS-Studien sind heterogen und die Placeboantwort bei IBS ist berüchtigt groß.
Warum der Stammcode wichtig ist
Probiotische Wirkungen sind stammspezifisch, und das ist keine technische Einzelheit. Zwei Stämme derselben Art können sich darin unterscheiden, welche Oberflächenproteine sie exprimieren, ob sie die Magensäure überstehen, ob sie überhaupt an den Darmschleim haften und was sie dort produzieren. Eine Studie, die einen Nutzen für L. plantarum 299v zeigt, demonstriert ihn für L. plantarum 299v — nicht für die Art.
Die praktische Konsequenz ist, dass ein Etikett, das nur einen Artnamen angibt, nicht überprüfbar ist. Wenn die vollständige Bezeichnung fehlt, kann keine veröffentlichte Evidenz dem, was in der Kapsel ist, zugeordnet werden.
