Probiotische Evidenz ist stammspezifisch. Was für L. reuteri DSM 17938 gilt, ist nicht automatisch für alles andere mit demselben Artnamen wahr.

Eine Metaanalyse unterstützt die reduzierte Schreidauer bei gestillten Säuglingen mit Koliken. [1]
Die Wirkung bei mit Säuglingsnahrung gefütterten Säuglingen ist nicht etabliert, und die Studien sind uneinig.
Warum der Stammcode wichtig ist
Probiotische Wirkungen sind stammspezifisch, und das ist keine technische Einzelheit. Zwei Stämme derselben Art können sich darin unterscheiden, welche Oberflächenproteine sie exprimieren, ob sie die Magensäure überstehen, ob sie überhaupt an Darmschleimhaut haften und was sie dort produzieren. Eine Studie, die einen Nutzen für L. reuteri DSM 17938 nachweist, zeigt diesen Nutzen nur für L. reuteri DSM 17938 — nicht für die Art.
Die praktische Konsequenz ist, dass ein Etikett, das nur einen Artnamen angibt, nicht überprüfbar ist. Wenn die vollständige Bezeichnung fehlt, kann keine veröffentlichte Evidenz dem, was in der Kapsel ist, zugeordnet werden.
