Le evidenze probiotiche sono specifiche per ceppo. Ciò che è vero per B. longum 1714 non è automaticamente vero per qualsiasi altro che condivide il suo nome di specie.
Cosa è stato studiato
Piccoli studi controllati su esseri umani che riportano una riduzione della risposta al cortisolo e un EEG alterato sotto stress acuto. [1]
Le dimensioni del campione sono piccole e la replicazione indipendente è limitata. Questo è il "psychobiotic" più citato e le evidenze sono preliminari.
Perché il codice del ceppo è importante
Gli effetti probiotici sono specifici per ceppo, e questo non è una questione tecnica. Due ceppi della stessa specie possono differire in quali proteine di superficie esprimono, se sopravvivono all'acido gastrico, se aderiscono o meno al muco intestinale e cosa producono una volta lì. Un trial che dimostra un beneficio per B. longum 1714 lo dimostra per B. longum 1714 — non per la specie.
La conseguenza pratica è che un'etichetta che riporta solo un nome di specie è non verificabile. Se la designazione completa è assente, nessuna evidenza pubblicata può essere collegata a ciò che c'è nella capsula.
